Elected representatives in government are in charge of the policy and funding that can make or break saving threatened species. Their decisions and actions matter.

Kennedy has or used to have 63 threatened animals within its boundaries. One of them is me, the Lake Eacham Rainbowfish.

We took care to attach appropriate images that are as close to representative of each species as our resources and the availability of images allowed. However, we could not ensure perfect accuracy in every case. Some images show species that share the same genus but not at the species or subspecies level.

Melanotaenia eachamensis is only found within Kennedy

The Lake Eacham Rainbowfish is a small, laterally-compressed fish rarely exceeding 6.5 cm in length. It is generally silvery or bluish in colour with a dark, mid-lateral stripe and two fainter ventral bands and red fins. Margins of dorsal and anal fins are almost black in breeding males. There is some sexual dimorphism: fins are longer, more pointed and more brightly coloured in breeding males.¹
