Elected representatives in government are in charge of the policy and funding that can make or break saving threatened species. Their decisions and actions matter.

Franklin has or used to have 23 threatened animals within its boundaries. One of them is me, the Pedder Galaxias.

We took care to attach appropriate images that are as close to representative of each species as our resources and the availability of images allowed. However, we could not ensure perfect accuracy in every case. Some images show species that share the same genus but not at the species or subspecies level.

Galaxias pedderensis is found across 2 electorates.

The Pedder Galaxias is a small, slender freshwater fish, with gold iridescence often present on the back and sides. This species is no longer found in its natural habitat, though was once endemic to Lake Pedder in southwestern Tasmania. There are translocated populations at Strathgordon Dam and Lake Oberon, both locations are free from the threat of alien fish species. This species spawns in spring and lives to at least six years.¹
