Elected representatives in government are in charge of the policy and funding that can make or break saving threatened species. Their decisions and actions matter.

Durack has or used to have 72 threatened animals within its boundaries. One of them is me, the Crested Shrike-tit.

We took care to attach appropriate images that are as close to representative of each species as our resources and the availability of images allowed. However, we could not ensure perfect accuracy in every case. Some images show species that share the same genus but not at the species or subspecies level.

Falcunculus frontatus whitei

Status: Vulnerable

The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) lists threatened species under six categories:

Falcunculus frontatus whitei is found across 2 electorates.

The species is an arboreal, medium sized bird, with striking black and white markings, and black crest on the head, with the body green above and yellow below. It is endemic to north-west Australia in the Kimberley region of Western Australia and in the north of the Northern Territory. It is thought to forage for invertebrates, mostly in foliage, branches, and the trunk and bark across a range of eucalypt and other tree species, this is quite different to the south-eastern subspecies, which forages under decorticating bark of eucalypt trees. The northern subspecies occurs at very low densities and typically occurs in small groups of two to five birds.¹
